…IT’S A TRANSFORMATIVE TIME IN LIFE, AND A WONDERFUL TIME TO RECEIVE MASSAGE.

The journey involves significant changes in body, mind and spirit; when the journey ends, an entirely new life unfolds, filled with new challenges. During this period of change and preparation, massage can provide support, allowing you to assimilate the changes in yourself, relax, and prepare for birth and the postpartum period. Studies of massage during pregnancy link therapeutic touch to higher fetal birth weight*, shorter and easier labor, and decreased depression, anxiety and pain symptoms**. Interested in receiving massage during your pregnancy? Let’s get started!

What to expect?

In every prenatal session, we start with a thorough intake. You will be asked about your pregnancy—what’s going well, what isn’t—any complications or risk factors that might impact the treatment, and any areas of your body that need extra attention. Anna will show you how to position yourself on the table in a side-lying position or a semi-reclined position, always supported with pillows and other props. You will be covered at all times with a sheet; Anna will only expose the area worked in each moment. She will use techniques to relax and ease tension in the neck, jaw, shoulders, arms, back, hips and legs. If you would like to receive massage to your belly for relaxation or uterine ligament pain, that may be included as well. When the session is over, you will be given ample time and privacy to get up and dress, as well as a hot towel to wipe off any excess oil. On your way out, you will have the opportunity to discuss your session, take care of payment, and schedule your next appointment.

Anna is a certified Prenatal and Postpartum Therapist. She has studied with Christie Abeling, Claire Marie Miller, and Leslie Stager. If you have any questions or concerns about Anna’s qualifications or about perinatal massage, get in touch!

After Birth…

The Postpartum period refers to the six weeks (give or take) following baby’s arrival. It is also referred to as the Fourth Trimester, because it is just as important a time for parents and baby as the pregnancy. Mom’s body needs time to heal after pregnancy, labor and delivery. Receiving a massage in this time period (or later on!) can help mom adjust to the changes in her body, ease pain, and improve mood.
